5 Star News

Well the New Year is off to a great start for us here at Aqua-Marina.  The sun is shining with not a cloud in the sky but more significantly we have had confirmation from PADI that we are now upgraded to a PADI 5 Star Centre - one of only two on the island, and the only one here in Playa de las Americas.  What this means to you divers is that you can be even more confident of the quality of equipment, service and facilities provided here.

Monarch goes to Birmingham

Those of you living in the vicinity of Birmingham, UK, may be interested to know that low-cost airline Monarch is to start daily flights between  Birmingham and Tenerife from late April.  It just gets easier and easier to get here.

Visit from Auntie

We have recently been honoured here in Tenerife with a two-week visit from a BBC film crew, shooting underwater film for an upcoming series.  If it's good enough for the BBC, it must be official - the diving here is top class!!  Can't wait to see the results of the filming.

Wreck Buddy

We have just had a diver (Gary) book the Wreck Speciality course over the New Year, starting either 31st December or 2nd January.  He would prefer to do the course with another diver as he quite rightly points out that these courses are more fun with someone else.  So is there anyone out there who would like to join him?  The normal course price is 270 Euros, but with 2 participants this drops to 220 Euros.  Bargain!

Angels

Madge here, glad to be back from a cold, rainy and grey UK to a warm and bright Tenerife.  Today's divers were delighted to spot an Angel shark the moment they dropped into the water this morning.  This species is most frequently seen in the Spring, during the mating season, but can be spotted most of the year round.  They look quite similar to rays, having a flattened body, and most often lying half submerged in the sand waiting to gobble up passing fish, molluscs and crustaceans.  Any shark-a-phobes out there, don't worry - these sharks are not considered a danger to man (or woman).

Rhona here, holding the fort again for Madge and what a busy week it´s been! It was great to see Sharon again who keeps coming back year after year! A warm welcome back to Michael and Julie and Alan! Some great dives and Andrea has actually found a new dive site! Some new faces too and was great to meet Maciej all the way from the New York and Aki and Annamaria from Denmark.

Hi there

I'm happy to report that normal service is now resumed with the sun out again and viz back to 20-25 metres.  Our divers on Tuesday's dive (Chris and Tim) were absolutely thrilled to witness one of our most beautiful rays, the marbled butterfly ray, at Playa Paraiso.  And best of all Jenny was filming that day so they were able to take home evidence on dvd.  This was all thanks entirely to Andy D whose ability to spot even the most well camouflaged creatures is legendary.  How he spotted just the eyes showing through the sand is beyond my comprehension!

We're looking forward to welcoming in the next few days Neil, who Chris and Tim have directed to us, and who no doubt will be expecting to be shown a butterfly ray, plus repeat clients Andy C, Julie and Alan.  And yes, Julie, we have now got that trolley sorted out.

Stormy weather

Hello again.  We've just experienced the entire average annual rainfall for Southern Tenerife in the last 48 hours.  As a result the final repairs to the boat were delayed yet again, (I know that sounds barmy, but we are talking electronics) but yesterday afternoon repairs were completed and today (Thursday) we are afloat!  Hurrah!  Viz is reduced to a shocking 15 metres or so as a result of the stormy weather, but we expect normal service of 25 metres to be resumed very soon.
