Diving News Summer 2005

Family days

We have recently been taking more and  more families and groups snorkelling by boat and it's proving to be a hugely popular trip with kids and adults alike.  Courtesy of the  inflatable toy shop we can guarantee that you will see whales and sharks as well as the marine life more commonly spotted here.

New Dive Site

We are delighted to have recently come across a new site where we are regularly seeing this turtle.  This site has become an instant favourite with our divers and snorkellers - you can see why.

Congratulations

Recent successfully completed courses include Open Water divers Adam and Chris (do check out  Chris's comments in our on-line Guest Book), Advanced Open Water Diver Tom, Open Water diver Gemma and Advanced Open Water diver Natalia.  Natalia and Kevin also completed their Peak Performance Buoyancy specialities and as a result Kevin almost halved the weight he now needs to use.  Result!

The ones that come in a square tin...

Andrea has just returned from what she reckons to be her best dive yet.  Noticing that there was even more activity and marine life than usual she wasn't sure why until it suddenly went dark.  Looking up she saw a shoal of sardines as far as the eye could see.  The barracuda were going mad for it with rays, puffer fish and others all wanting their share of the action. Fantastic!

Welkom!

.... to Wim, Rien, René, Kim, Kevin, Leon, Tom, Patrick and Bruno. We're having a very Dutch time at the moment with all of these guys either Belgian or Dutch but all speaking Dutch.  Thank goodness you all speak such good English -  I'm so useless at Dutch I even had to ask André in the Dutch restaurant next door how to spell Welkom!

And God Bless All Who Sail in Her...

Aqua-Marina (and skipper Neil in particular) is delighted to announce the purchase of a new (well nearly new) Valiant RIB named Nostromo.  At 7.5 metres she is slightly larger than her more elderly sister, who is now in semi-retirement, and as we are still licenced for the same number of passengers, this means a bit more room and comfort on board.

Email problems

We are currently experiencing intermittent problems with our email, ie not receiving consistently.  If you email us and do not get a reply, please please call us on (00 34) 922 79 79 44.  We will gladly return your call to save you the expense.  In the meantime, can anyone recommend a good ISP???

Yeeeehaaaaaa.............. Rhona is finally a Divemaster!

Congratulations to Rhona! The longest DM Course in the history of Aqua-Marina finished today. Now we are all looking forward to her party and the snorkel-test. She just finished in time for our busy season in summer and she might be your dive leader next time you are in Tenerife.

Thanks Andrea!!!! What can I say...........if it wasn’t for Andrea cracking her Swiss whip I would still be putting off the snorkel swim! So a huge thanks to Andrea for giving me the enthusiasm and encouragement to finally get it finished! She has been a great Instructor and is now looking forward to training up some new DM’s!! See you all underwater............................

Divemaster Interns wanted

We are currently looking for 2 Divemaster interns to work for us on a work-for-free-train-for-free basis for the months of July and August.  Applicants should be at least 18 years old, trained to Rescue Diver level and have 30+ logged dives.  For more information please email us on info@aqua-marina.com.

Training Reef Traffic

It's getting to be a job to get the training done lately with the size of marine life putting in an appearance here on our local training site.  A few days ago it was a 2 meter Angel Shark at the bottom of our CESA line.  Not seeing him buried in the sand, Andrea descended directly over him and disturbed his sleep; he wasn't at all happy about that. And this morning we had an Atlantic ray, not for the first time, with a 2.5m wing span.  How are we supposed to get the attention of the students with all that going on??

Trapped turtle

It was again a privilege this week to be able to free a turtle totally tangled up in fishing line.  It was just a youngster and would certainly have died had he not been spotted by our friend Nigel who works on the local parasailing boat who in turn called us over to cut poor tommy free.

And more congratulations...

...this time to Bhavin who completed his Open Water course in record time, having been told in the Maldives to give up on the idea!  What a determined man he proved to be, and it paid off big time.  We look forward to welcoming him back to do his Advanced Open Water, that is if he can fit it in between his motor cycle lessons and flying lessons.  Oh, and the qualifying instructor:  none other than Mr Andy Delgado!
