Rhona Here
Rhona here holding the fort with Neil and freelancer Jenny! Madge, Steve and Andrea are busy at the Dive Show in Birmingham this weekend hopefully adding to our ever growing dive community. Its been great though last week to have Andrew and the Bellamy girls back and I even got a chance to take Pat, Lizzie and Eve to Playa Paraiso where we had a very inquisitive Atlantic Ray and an even friendlier Eagle Ray join us for the dive! A warm welcome back to John and David who are here this week and looking forward to seeing Clive. All in all a busy week at Aqua-Marina!

Madge
Those of you who've dived with us recently will be checking for news of the on-going saga of our boat. She's been land-based for three weeks now and although we've been repeatedly assured that all repairs were complete, she still won't start. The current promise is for a new starter motor arriving from Japan on Friday - yeah, yeah! In the meantime though we have found some great new shore dives (see below) and have been chartering boats for those sites not accessible by land, so hopefully no reduction in quality of service to our divers.

Pastures New
A few days ago saw the end of an era with Mike hanging up his fins, professionally speaking, and moving into a new phase of his life. He has returned to mainland Spain to be with Teresa and is getting involved in eco-friendly home construction! Just a slight change from diving! Naturally we wish him every success and happiness in his new life and thank him for his unique contribution, fuelled by his unrivalled experience, to the current success of Aqua-Marina.

Bad girl
Apologies to those of you who check for news regularly - I've been very remiss lately in not keeping you updated and I consider myself quite rightly told off by Andrea who is diving with us currently with her husband, Chris. Sorry Andrea, will try to do better in the future!

Ivan Effect
We're now well into September and the change of season is noticeable with much more comfortable daytime temperatures whilst the sea remains around 23-24, with many of our divers quite comfortable in shorties. The last few days have seen some freak conditions however - according to the newspaper (which means it must be true, right?) - this is due to Hurricane Ivan making its presence felt all the way over the Atlantic. Things are settling a bit now though and it's certainly not keeping us from diving. Those of us who are used to the usual 20m+ viz can notice the difference but newcomers to Tenerife diving still think its amazing which, of course, it is!

UK Dive Show
Steve and I are busy preparing for the Dive Show in Birmingham at the end of October, where we hope to meet many of you. More news will follow on this as we have some great prizes to give away - an opportunity you really shouldn't miss if you're going to be there.

Turtle Tale
I'm proud to report that we were privileged enough to be able to save a turtle yesterday. It was clearly in some distress on the surface and on closer inspection we could see that it was caught in some fishing net which was cutting quite deeply into its flesh. Our crew and divers managed to get it onto the boat, cut the net away and release it back into the blue. And since one good turn deserves another, the guys were rewarded with a swim with a dolphin on the very next dive!
